There are many times I just hang around with a couple of friends drinking beers and discussing about Metal in general (classic stuff that you have done many times, too). One of topics we discuss is the status of the Greek Metal scene. We usually wonder if there are bands that have talent and passion in their music and deserve to do something better than release one or two albums that will sell no more than 100 copies (which by the way will be bought by family, friends etc.). My answer is always the same... There are great bands out there, we just have to open our eyes and see them!
DIRT SPAWN DISEASE is one of the bands I mentioned above (the ones who deserve something better of course!). After searching to find some info about them, I ended up with just one clue. Anyway, this band hails from Greece (something you already have understood) and the singer is known for his previous band, ROT (also from Greece). I did not find anything else about these guys so I will just move on to the main part of this review.
DIRT SPAWN DISEASE's music belongs to the modern Metal stuff. The quartet seems to be able to mix influences that range from Thrash and Stoner Metal to Progressive, Nu Metal and Hardcore perfectly! The singer's voice is really something out of this world! This guy really has 1000 voices! You can hear him sing in a very melodic style and the next second he turns into a beast spitting brutality and filth! I could say that he is a very nice mix between Maynard and Corey Taylor. DIRT SPAWN DISEASE have been influenced by bands such as SLIPKNOT and ILL NINO while adding TOOL's paranoia to their riffing. I could also say that I sensed some influences coming from ISIS. Anyway, their music is characterized by their passion, something that makes the band sound alive. Their sound is modern in a good way and their music sounds really fresh. Even though I could mention all these influences, DIRT SPAWN DISEASE is a band that looks similar to some, but still manages to sound unique. The songs have everything the Metal scene could ask for in the 21st century, groove, unlimited inspiration, great riffs, melody and a great singer that kicks ass! The lyrics have to do with emotions (do NOT confuse what I say with emo shit), politics, the decline of this world and are very nice! I think that if you listen to this CD and put the lyrics aside, then you have lost half of its meaning.
Even though there are nine tracks in this CD, it has been released as a demo. I don't know if you can buy it or something, but if you can, better check it out and you will definitely not be disappointed.
