Dimevision - Vol 1 album cover

There are many things that someone has to consider when making moves that one the one hand may please several fans, but on the other hand may make some people sad or even worse, pretty angry. This DVD caused mixed feelings to me and I don't really know how to judge such a release. Basically, it all began during a cold Saturday night, when some friends and I gathered to see the DVD I am now reviewing.

We grabbed some ice-cold beers, lighted a cigarette and relaxed to watch what this DVD contains. My friend pressed the play button and deep silence surrounded the room. We were all watching the screen with pure devotion. I knew nothing about this release and I thought we would watch clips from PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN live performances, as well as some people talking about Dime's death. The DVD has nothing to do with that stuff. It contains bullshit Dime and his friends were doing while hanging around, drinking and generally having fun. While watching Dimevision, you will come across Dimebag waking his friends up with fireworks, destroying the lawn at a friend's house with a jeep and playing his guitar. The guitar playing is only for some moments, the DVD is mostly what the title says, just having fun.

There are not many things to comment on what this DVD contains but after watching it, my friends and I had a little talk about some things. What is the point in releasing something like this? What is the catch behind such a move? The only feelings I had were two, sadness because of Dime's loss, and we are talking about the greatest guitarist of Heavy Metal (my humble opinion), and laughter because of Dime's way to tear everything apart! This guy was a person that wouldn't calm down, not even for a second. You just have to see the way he was waking his friends up (remember the word fireworks). Vinnie Paul's idea regarding the release of Rebel Meets Rebel (Thrash/Country band featuring the Darrell brothers along with Rex Brown and David Allan Coe) was great, but isn't this release a bit too much? Why do some people try to make money based on the lives of dead people? There is a small word called respect. It would be a lot better if this release was about Dime's history on music and his offerings to the Metal scene. The main videos should be Dimebag shredding on stage and not fooling around drunk. Ok, he was an adorable person and an honest metalhead. He was fun but I don't think that people are going to spend their money on a Metal version of Jackass! Even die-hard fans will think about it very much before making any move (and I doubt if people who respect Dime will buy this piece of crap).

Listen people, this is not a way to remember Dimebag Darrell. His death definitely remains indelible, but there are things that we should reconsider. I was curious because I did not expect Vinnie would allow such a move to be done. I am not accusing anyone, but I prefer to sit down, grab a beer and listen to some PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN or REBEL MEETS REBEL. At least that's my way to pay tribute to the fallen guitar hero. Sorry for the length of this text, but this is the least I can do to pay my respects to a Heavy Metal hero, who changed many things in the weak (then) Metal scene. I hope you are watching us friend! Say hello from me to Hendrix and Rhoads...
