Dimension Zero

Dimension Zero is a Hard Rock band from Utah, USA. Their strength is in the guitar's interaction with an almost Devo-ish industrial sound.
Dimension Zero started out as an online distributor for graphical/musical demos but Phillip Montgomery Singleton (the one man band) became intrigued with computer generated music, the result of which is the 2004 singe, Replica.
Singleton has a good grasp of groove and sometimes slips in a fun Rock 'n' Roll vibe. The guitar work is pretty good and reacts interestingly with the electronic noises he uses. The various instruments work well together and do not steal each other's glory. Sometimes Singleton sounds a little like a higher pitched Danzig but with less power to his voice. He speaks a little too much for me, I prefer it when the majority of the vocals are sung. Replica sports a slightly eerie vibe to its Rock but never gets particularly evil sounding. He uses sound clips, which usually I like but I feel he went overboard with them. Singleton's influences include such bands as Faith No More and Pink Floyd and I can hear it in how diverse his music is. Unlike the aforementioned bands, however, he has not mastered the art of weaving these disperate sounds together. Parts of both songs are pleasant to hear but I feel Dimension Zero would have done better to have weeded out a few of these extra sections.
Overall, I would say that Dimension Zero is not a bad band. It is listenable and I liked his sense of groove. With proper pruning Dimension Zero could become something entertaining in the future.
