Diary of Secrets - Back to the Start EP album cover

What pops into your head when you think of the word Greece? The views? The landmarks? The food? Or maybe it's the music scene? Well maybe not the latter so much but let it not be said that I dislike Greek Rock bands as I have heard some good ones. Therefore, I am always open to listening and reviewing new Greek Rock music and the promo featured in today's review happens to be just that.

The band is called DIARY OF SECRETS and their new EP "Back to the Start" is out now on Sleaszy Rider Records. This 4 piece band is from the Thessaloniki area of Greece and in 2013 they released their debut self titled album. Following a change in singers, the band is back with a new vocalist and a new 4 song EP which clocks in at around 17 minutes playtime.

Straight off the bat when you hear the opening title track, you are blasted with some heavy guitars and bass riffs, powerful drumming and a punchy vocal performance giving you a taste of what the new line-up is capable of. Although since I have not heard of this band prior to receiving their new EP for review, I cannot say what they used to sound like with their previous singer, but I do like what this new guy is capable of.

Next up is something a bit different as the vocalist steps aside while the guitars, bass, and drums take over for a heavy fast paced instrumental called "Paris." I like instrumentals just as much as vocal tracks as they can be pretty damn amazing and it's the same here as it's fast, heavy, hard hitting, and loud.

Next things get stripped down in the form of an acoustic version of a song from their debut album entitled "Stone Heart Bleeding." It sounds very cool but then again stripped down tracks do have a habit of sounding awesome as in my opinion they can often be more passionate then the original band versions, but that's just me.

Lastly we get a band track to close off the EP entitled "The Voice."  Just like the opening title track, this is heavy, loud, hard hitting and fast. The vocal performance isn't as strong on this track as it is on the opening track but fortunately it doesn't matter too much as the singer does put some effort into the performance and that makes up for any drops in quality.

So what do we get here? This is actually a pretty sweet little EP with 2 hard and heavy band tracks, 1 insane instrumental and 1 cool acoustic track. This means you get a nice diverse mixture of styles and any bands that do that with their music score instant points for me as I do like a bit of diversity in the music I listen to. DIARY OF SECRETS is definitely one of those bands you should be keeping an eye on.
