Intermination
Dew-Scented
Maybe it is beyond the survival instinct, or there is something out of this world within this band that couldn't be understood. Leif Jensen, and his baby DEW-SCENTED, crossed the path into the next album in line, reserving the lineup while also adding Rory Hansen, as the new second guitarist, on board right after the previous "Icarus". That is the product of dedication and the utmost motivation to make music no matter what the cost while also fundamentally preserving an idle which could never be broken. I believe that I wrote something of the same when I reviewed "Icarus", what I can say guys? I have been inspired following the path of this this band. So where were we? Oh right, clocking three years, and DEW-SCENTED, close by to their big "Thrash Mercenaries Tour" as headliners this coming October, issued "Intermination", via Prosthetic / Metal Blade Records, because can't do anything without the letter "I" at the beginning of every record. When I unveiled the covers from this release, I easily knew what I was getting myself into, loads of Thrash, onslaught party of semi Death Metal and a whole lot of volcanic eruptions.
No surprises, just honest carved in stone legacy continuing without shedding the dust out of its merits. Though the band went through musical changes back in the late 90's, ever since then the ship kept sailing in the similar manner no matter if the captain remained alone on board. With blinks towards SLAYER, aspects that just couldn't be ignored throughout almost every DEW-SCENTED release, "Intermination" maintains the band's sheer nature at cracking things up, making the pit as bloody as possible without taking prisoners. One would say that this kind of doctrine might be close minded, yet I believe that if a formula works, it simply works. DEW-SCENTED's outbursts of pure violence, tackling with heavy riffery attributed by onslaught rhythm section that wouldn't take a rest to breath, burning solos screaming chaotic damnation, once again the eternal SLAYERish touch, and a mouth that only knows that meaning of catastrophe, it has been their true image. The songwriting provided also points of extreme style musicianship other than the traditional Thrash / Death Metal affiliations, but eventually all came up to the kind of tunes that this band has been famous for.
Talking about taking no prisoners earlier, the steamed machine just kept on rolling, no stop signs to alert of its incoming attack. Solemn feverish moments of vehemence came true within the "On a Collision Course" but from there on the monstrosity just conserved its consuming with "Scars of Creation", "Means To An End", "Ode to Extinction", "Living Lies" and the superb Thrash Metal "Reborn", which also hosted Kyle Thomas of EXHORDER. Often, to be honest, it would quite easy to differentiate between the songs as those have the same vibe running through them while their arrangements share similarities, yet it would be hard to argue with the quality.
Although a bit behind of "Icarus" and its previous contender, "Invocation", DEW-SCENTED expressed their obsession with extreme Thrash with high rated musicianship and a sense of toughness that as I have said earlier, will leave pit after pit blood dripped.
