DEVIL'S GIFT, a band named most probably after Kenneth J. Berton's horror film, is a modern American act led by Lennon Murphy, one quite famous pop/rock Orlando-based singer/songwriter. They have a very famous producer in their ranks, namely Jason Suecof, both as producer (apparently) and as a guitar player and songwriter, and David Elitch (DAUGHTERS OF MARA) who co-wrote some songs and played the drums.

Before this record, I thought that Lennon's career was more pop-oriented, judging by some tracks I've happened to listen to and a couple of videos I came across. So, starting by this I can bet most of you would be suspicious about the reason of this project. I actually suppose it's quite likely more of a trick to add to Lennon's standard buying basis some metalheads or vice versa. Yet anyways if the result was really good, everything would be fine(by me at least).

However, although the sound is huge and impressing and the grooves pretty catchy, to be honest, I wasn't even close to being stunned by the output .This might be due to the fact that I'm not a fan of Lennon's voice, which although has nothing bad I reckon it is the average contralto voice without a characteristic colour or not one that appeals to me anyhow. This flaw is of a more general nature I suppose since most metalheads would dig more a female voice like Doro or Ann Boleyn from HELLION.

Further more, those that love the atmospheric sub-genre usually seek something more operatic like Tarja Turunen or Liv Kristine Espenaes. Hence, I fear that Devil's Gift can't conceal the fact that is more of a pop thing, rather than a Metal record. No doubts it has some good riffs, a couple of nice hooks and a promising personnel but in my opinion it is a bit weak.
