DEVIL'S DICE.... The name alone is kind of reminiscent of that band you always see playing at your local metal bar playing covers of AC/DC to a couple of dozen drunk people. But don't let the name fool you. DEVIL'S DICE hail from Birmingham, England and pride themselves on their true, classic Heavy Metal sound. Taking from the greats such as JUDAS PRIEST and ACCEPT and spinning their sound into their own, they bring back classic Heavy Metal.

Their opening track "Feed The Flames" kicks off with some catchy riffage and drum beats. The vocals shortly kick in and they're a pleasant surprise, this guy can actually sing. Far too often you hear great bands musically but they're unfortunately ruined by the vocals. This track kicks off the album with a definite bang. Four songs later we're greeted with the title track, it has some guitar work that reminds me of some of the earlier JUDAS PRIEST releases. We're even treated to a little pre-vocal guitar solo. This particular track is almost danceable, it has that groovy 80's Heavy Metal feel to it. All we're missing is the shameful haircuts and the tight jeans. The bass is very evident in this track, I wish it would have been more noticeable in the rest of the album. My only pet peeve with this song would be at some points it feels as though Matt is struggling to hit some of the higher notes, you can hear the strain in his voice.

My favourite song on the album comes two songs later in the form of "Hour of the Wolf". Everyone in the band is completely on form for this song. The vocals are deep and electrifying, the guitar work is so diverse, they switch from licks, to chuggy chords to a killer solo. All the instruments blend in so well together and prove that they're more than "just another" British metal band.

My impression, as a whole on this album is great. All elements work ridiculously well together, talent shines through and through with the majority of the songs. The production quality is impeccable and can't be faulted. DEVIL'S DICE sound a lot like their influences but broke away into their own and didn't make the mistake of becoming carbon copies. I can't wait to hear what they come out with next!
