Between Life And Dreams

I love DEVA no, no shit coming, I just love DEVA, thank the Metal Goddess that bands such as this exist, because the scene would be bleak at least, young people coming together and do their dream, with no ado no support and backing and they do it as the greatest professionals would do, with respect to the scene and to their art.
DEVA come from Italy and "Between Life And Dreams" is their first self produced and recorded and released album and IT ROCKS! They blend the technical side of progressive Metal soothed by the female vocals, that hold the aggression and the anarchistic technicality of levels such as DREAM THEATER at bay, thus eliminating any possibility to tire with being overly technical absurd. There is the will but Beatrice manages to hold those guys back, and how could she not...
Beatrice' s voice is what really makes the difference in this excellent album. She holds the balance of the insane band that tries to overshadow her with massive progressive riffs and dark gothic ambiance coming from the lyrical synths and classical instruments. She manages to calm the storm of the instruments and truly take you away to a place between life and dreams.
"Between Life And Dreams" is not without flaw though, sometimes there is a small repetition in the musical forms that probably comes either from inexperience or passion for their music. I also felt that the most important parts of the album, namely the 'Karma' trilogy, are weaker in regard to the other songs. Maybe it was just me but the opening songs are so powerful. I liked the production, they managed to boost the clarity of the sound even more and kept in check the vocal exaggerations of Beatrice, which was difficult to do with the instruments.
Very good first attempt from DEVA that will appeal to a vast range of fans namely from progressive Metal fans to gothic Metal fans. I would pick them for my playlist, I hope that they continue to be as good as they are.
