Demonic Possession
Destructo
DESTRUCTO are a speed/thrash metal trio from the city of Amsterdam, Holland and they are two members of the band NUCLEAR DEVASTATION, SOULCRUSHER and MOTÖRPHALLUS. They can be described as 'destructive, merciless and total fukk-off driven. There seems to be themes of insanity, blasphemy, narcotic and intoxication. They dropped their first demo in 2019 which was named UNTITLED and contained 5 tracks released through Wolves Of Hades on cassette, vinyl and digital release.
Now they have finally come around to releasing their debut album DEMONIC POSSESSION through Dying Victims Productions in all formats. Firstly the album starts off with "Succubus", opening with instrumental sounds of guitar, bass & drums. Guitar has this mellow tone with drums supporting bass providing the tone or atmosphere of the intro track. Then the agitated vocals come storming into the mix and have that sinister influence. Drums certainly take the thrash element and guitar is using the speed metal element to its advantage.
Onto the next track which is "Black Mark" keeping the momentum going. Vocals are just as ominous and aggressive as well with drums or guitar simply staggering but speeding along like a racecar driving at full speed. The next track after "In Service To No One" is counted in by drums, the tempo is slower at first but feels faster when drums are in full swing. Guitar especially goes wild and stands out but moving onto the next track now. "Necromancy" is another short segment of this album with all the usual thrash or speed metal elements. Vocals shout or scream as much as they can and drums play heavy as guitar or bass guitar does. "Satan's Hammer" has slowed somewhat and vocals do stand out on this occasion. A hammer indeed is thrown by drums or guitar as is the reckoning or end of everything.
It gets quite soloistic at the end of this fifth track and has a lot to like. "Lycanthro Kommando" being the sixth track, the guitar takes a different approach with more variation in tone and vibrato. The next track "Total Death" opens with the usual speed elements but using thrash elements to spicen the mix up. Drums become more fluid and creative in their own way. Up next is "I, WitchFukker" which has moments for which guitar takes the lead rather than vocals. But nevertheless we are treated specially for vocal intuition which is frightening too. The penultimate track is "Bloodthirst" and it comes flying in with guitar vibrato maybe or distortion perhaps. "Demonic Possession" brings a more grunge type of sound on guitar and drums, certainly keeping us on our tip toes.
There is also a range of dynamics with contrast let alone the instruments sounding slightly different in each section. The guitar is throbbing with excitement and vocals haunted with an occult feel with tone. Overall it's a good album has its ups and downs but I enjoyed the combination of speed or thrash metal together to hear what it sounds like, I would say more variation in tempo or dynamics. There are moments of surprise between all the tracks and this band will produce some of the best moments hopefully in their next release.
