Destroyer of Light - Generational Warfare album cover

DESTROYER OF LIGHT hail from Austin, Texas. I actually already reviewed one of their previous albums back in 2017 called ''Chamber of Horrors''. I believe this is the first time I review a band for a second time and boy am I happy that it's these guys. This is a two-song EP, following the release of the ''Mors Aeterna'' album back in the summer of 2019 I believe. They do have a tendency or releasing singles and EPS between albums and I am not complaining.

DESTROYER OF LIGHT are one of the very best American Doom Metal bands out there, I would put them with the likes of PALLBEARER, SPIRIT ADRIFT and KHEMMIS. They have that old school feeling about them but they have a refreshing take on the genre itself. I was kinda surprised seeing they released an EP just a few months after their third full-length album. It's always pretty tough to review only two songs but these were stuck in my head for a while and that's a pretty good sign nonetheless.

I don't know if ''These Walls'' was supposed to be on the previously album but this song follows the thread of this album. You have this sense of melancholy and sense of hopelessness. The song ''These Walls'' talks about the modern world that is surrounded by limits, the real ones and the ones we make up in our heads. The title of the EP is ''Generational Warfare'' and it's pretty symbolic. I can safely say that unfortunately each generation of people have to deal with a global conflict somewhere in the world and it's the constant feeling of hopeless facing this crisis. We will never have a generation that will live in peace and the next generation of people will have to fight the good fight and face a world gone asunder.

The pleasant surprise was the cover of THE CURE's ''Lullaby''. A song that was in the Top 30 singles in the United Kingdom back in 1989. This song is from the hugely popular album called ''Desintegration''. I know a lot of fans of this band and this particular album. I don't know much about THE CURE except the classics so I had to listen to this again because it sure as hell wasn't fresh in my memory. DESTROYER OF LIGHT brings this song to another level and its crushing Doom Metal at its best. I loved the overall feeling of dread in the cover and they made this song their own.

This EP is a powerful sequel to the 2019 album and it's really a crowd-pleaser. If they ever come back to Montreal (I believe they came in early 2019), I will not miss them this time. What a wonderful EP and this is for fans of the great Doom Metal bands we have had since the mid 2000's. PS: I put the link to the video of ''Into the Smoke'' because I couldn't find anything from this EP and that Video is so hilarious with them playing in a small supermarket!
