Desolation - Desoriented album cover

Nearly seven years passed since the last time something was heard from DESOLATION and here they are again, with a surprise, a third release named "Desoriented". This new full-length contains ten unique songs in two different languages, English and German.

They may sound a bit strange at the beginning, this mixture of dominant keyboards, dominant vocals and mostly restrained acting strings fractions; this mix of Melodic Death and Black Metal influences of the early nineties, which ensures that "Desoriented", despite its modern feel, holds a certain anachronism. One must not forget just that this band was formed in 1994, the year in which albums like "De Mysteriis Dom. Sathanas", "Transylvanian Hunger" or "For All Tid" (definitely a big influence, I would guess) have been published, although it was the first album around 1999, and now again with "Desoriented" the atmosphere of the nineties albums lacks a certain degree. Nevertheless, those who think of the early DIMMU BORGIR albums and a few influences from the early days of the Scandinavian Melodic Death Metal added, is not completely the reversed image of how DESOLATION will sound in 2013 .

Now enough comparing, the "Desoriented" can definitely stand on its own. To ensure the perfect musicianship, only on a few highlights, and of the overall sound of guitar work, the repeatedly atmosphere-stiffened spreading keyboards and last but not least the very intense vocals of the two singers that offer DESOLATION a magnificent moment after another, even more radically, to be even more pronounced - and the best of all time. If you feel to challenge this argument check out "L'auberge d'Esolation" and you'll be amazed. Yes, it's certainly prodigious how DESOLATION created "Desoriented" mostly put together familiar elements so that (not least because of the urban atmosphere and the lyrical concept about the eponymous disorientation in today's world) comes out something that I have never heard of before. Due to various potential difficulties - as already mentioned, the album has the first pass on the whole, still getting used to and even chaotic, personally, beyond this urban mood, I found no difficulty to accept this kind of releases. I'm sure that there is a demand for a special taste to better understand "Desoriented".

Finally I can declare that "Desoriented" is a complex, cold, urban, catchy Black / Death Metal album that despite all his nineties bonds into 2013, it fits like a hand in a glove, and probably only in this millennium could arise, ultimately formed. This is an album that combines ten times just unique, distinctive songs with a lot of hit potential. With that alone DESOLATION deserves much respect.
