Underground Metal scene bring out such awesome nasty albums that it's hard to believe that they manage to remain underground even after ages. Though DESERT LORD isn't a very old band, I can't help but wonder why there hasn't been enough talk around such a great record released in May this year. Welcome the new Doomy stoners from Finland as they bring out their debut full length record with "To The Unknown" clocking 49:01 min.
The album goes on full swing right from the first song, and frankly it's quite impressive. With his screaming raspy and haunting vocals Sampo is very impressive and adds a new dimension to the thick juicy riffs brought in by the axe-men Roni and Janne. The drums here just follow the guitars and though don't do anything special, works just fine for the free flowing music. The music reminded me of a local band here from my city named BEVAR SEA! So though the music itself is not completely innovative, the riffs sound fresh and the nasty vocals elevate this album like no other. The riffs are cheesy and help you to headbang along, and even air guitar occasionally, like in the opening song "Forlorn Caravan", and in songs like "Wonderland" you find more innovation with drone style riffs. There is enough variety in the album to keep the listener interested even though the songs are around 8-9 min long and that makes a big difference here, as the music hovers in and around both Stoner Metal and Doom metal genres.
This is an album you don't want to miss if you're a fan of dark nasty Doom, Sludge, or Stoner Metal genres, as this is album is a pure treat. There is no single favourite song of mine here as each song is very strong and has huge weight behind it that elevates this album, and the production is just perfect for this band. I hardly find anything to complain here even with the occasional boring riff, so take my word and go check this album now!
