Desecration - Lords Of Misery (Unsigned) album cover

Starting a small music business won't always bring success right from the start. However, right from the beginning there should always be a glimpse of hope for the road ahead. When I check out the new independent EP, "Lords Of Misery", released by the young Spanish Thrashers, DESECRATION, I thought just that. With all my strong admiration for Thrash Metal, I can't say that these were close to make an impact with this release.

Throughout the release I noticed the guys' energy for this kind of music and their respect for the old school gods that bread the sub-genre. Attracting more with a European kind of Thrash Metal like earlier KREATOR or SODOM rather their American perception of SLAYER or EXODUS or MUNICIPAL WASTE, the band tried to add on some extremities to the material that plainly wasn't needed. The best example I can give you were the growls of the band's vocalist / bassist Albert Marcé. Furthermore, their attempts to become a bit more constructive and diverse turned most of their songs into something that is hard to understand and to follow.

On "Lords Of Misery" DESECRATION presented three tracks that are worth mentioning. The ignition of "Molestation" that was a very good free willing track that have nice traces back to a sort of a Thrashed Punk. "Die Young", a good thrashy remembrance for both BLACK SABBATH and DIO, I liked the lead guitar parts very much and it seemed that an effort was made. Finally there is the opening "Prelude To Depravity" that did the EP a fine welcoming note for a Thrash album. As for the others, I wouldn't have inserted those two demos, "Face Your Fear" and "Mental Anesthesia" in the first place. DESECRATION should have worked on those to show them in much better form in their next release.

So I am coming to this. This band has the roots of Thrash to follow and they have been doing it quite well as far as I can tell. However, I think that they need to do more, like reorganizing some of their material, in order to become better.
