Descent - Order of Chaos album cover

DESCENT is a Hardcore/Death metal band from Brisbane, Australia and are back with their second full length release, Order of Chaos. Previously releasing a demo in 2015, and then a full length album in 2018, titled Towers of Grandiosity. With strong reviews from their first release, and finding themselves opening for the likes of DARK FUNERAL and CATTLE DECAPITATION, they look to keep momentum going with another energetic powerhouse of a release.

We start off the experience of this album with "Tempest", and you are engulfed immediately in the energy that embodies the band. They waste little time imposing their will right off the bat, as Anthony's vocal growls are a driving force and the guitars seem to be everywhere at once, offering up meaty riffs. The next song up "Dragged" is delivered like a shovel to the face, very direct and is not bound by just a few speedy riffs, as this song has a lot of elements to it. Galloping guitars hold a strong presence of power that comes across with the vocals. The drums hold this chaos in place nicely with fury and timely rhythm. Marching into the next song "Resolve", you can tell that there is no bullshitting around with these guys. Some nice timing on the guitars at the first are like sirens for the upcoming storm, and they impress the whole way through. Their creativity as an artist is felt in this song, and they don't border themselves with expectations of how a song should be structured.

The next track "Gathering" begins as if it will take a trashy punk curve, but ends up down a dirty, crunchy, rut-filled Death metal route. Rapid fire drums that effortlessly transcend into rhythmic bursts of power, classic Death metal varied riffs make this one a banger. Anthony shows some levels in his vocals with the next track "Fester". The song falls into an eerie place with some bass midway or so, that opens up the song and then is crushed to an end. It all comes together in the next track "Filth". The drums are great throughout it all, and the riffs are solid. A well put together song for any metalhead to enjoy. The album ends with "Despotic" and leaves you wanting more. Some drum and bass slows it down and it explodes nicely to end it all.

This is a good album all around. It seems well put together and the production was well done. The songs stand out from each other and each instrument is contributing in it's own way. The album sounds good from start to finish and I would recommend it.
