Desaster - The Arts Of Destruction album cover

DESASTER's a German band with roots back to 1988. They have a quite a history with albums and member shifts, but these guys have experience and that's to hear inside their 7th album called "The Arts Of Destruction" that was released last February through High Roller Records. A steady album with relaxed Black / Thrash Metal inside solid songs brought with heavy might.

My very first Metal tape (now almost 30 years old) was filled with VENOM, SLAYER, METALLICA and ANTHRAX. DESASTER's album "The Arts Of Destruction" reminded me about at least 3 of the mentioned band. Of course their Facebook page does show a list of bands they like such as VENOM, SLAYER, KREATOR, MOTORHEAD, HELLHAMMER, UNLEASHED, CELTIC FROST, DESTRUCTION, SODOM, MERCYFUL FATE, DARKTHRONE and IMMORTAL, but the album "The Arts Of Destruction" clearly shows that DESASTER has their own sound and that they were not born yesterday. DESASTER might not have been changing genres very much, but they have managed to get better inside capturing their desired sounds. "The Arts Of Distruction" holds a fulfilling fat sound, due to steady rolling fat drum lines, fat bass lines, fast riffs and catchy growling voice, that is sometimes to understand and sometimes not, but catchy anyway. The entire sound on "The Arts Of Destruction" is telling me that DESASTER know who they are, what they want and how to do it with fun, like the album's secretly filled with little jokes.

Please don't misunderstand; DESASTER is not a happy Metal band. It's a not to miss Black / Thrash, filled with anger and hate, but it also contains the energy to move on, have a good laugh and some twisted revenge. This album is as solid as a Metal rock, kicks ass and can handle my repeat button very well. The way the songs are built does give every song its own sound, power and speed, just to add to the fun of playing it.

"The Arts Of Destruction" is from my point of view better than their former work. By working on their sound they gained an extra dimension that makes this album not only angry, dark, fast and mean, but also relaxed.
