Demonic Resurrection - The Return To Darkness album cover

To tell you the truth, the first thing that came into my mind after seeing this album was that it looks way too cliché to be good. I mean, this is a name for a band some high school kids would choose and the song titles are too "simple". Maybe I was right and the music would be as common, maybe I was wrong. The sure thing is I wouldn't find out if I didn't listen to the album...

The first thing that "impresses" you is that the band hails from Mumbai, India. Yes, as it seems many labels sign bands from countries with no tradition in the scene after that damn "Global Metal" documentary. The band shreds since 2002 and surprisingly has released two full-length albums, an EP and a split release thus far, all released by the band itself. Let's see if this quintet will grab the chance Candlelight gives them.

DEMONIC RESURRECTION's music is a mix of melodic Black and Death Metal, reminding a bit of bands like DIMMU BORGIR, CRADLE OF FILTH, OLD MAN'S CHILD etc. These guys have some marvelous ideas hidden throughout "The Return To Darkness" that have nothing to fear compared to huge names and the whole structure of the album is pretty good showing that DEMONIC RESURRECTION have put a lot of effort on this one. Their macabre melody also mixes with their Middle Eastern musical heritage, only to produce a soundtrack for your nightmares.

The band has kept balanced levels of melody, brutality and technique, and that's what makes "The Return To Darkness" a really good album with no fillers that you may listen to pleasantly until the end. Thumbs up for the polished production, too!
A very good start and a huge promise for the future. Let's see...
