Demonaz - March Of The Norse album cover

In the Black Metal society, Demonaz has proved his good value. Founding member, guitarist and lyricist of IMMORTAL, has now reached the turning point of being able to go solo. As I see it, he made a brilliant choice. However, his intent was not to make a Black Metal album. With Ice Dale (I, ENSLAVED, AUDREY HORNE) on guitars and bass, and Armagedda (Ex-IMMORTAL, I) on drums, he took his chances in what he calls "Norse Metal".

"March Of The Norse" is more melodic than IMMORTAL, more old school and mature. You will hear no blastbeats, no chaotic Black Metal instrumentation, and you will find no tonsils on the microphone. After all, Norse Metal seems to be all about the cold, morbid North.

The dark atmosphere of Black Metal still looms, but it doesn't sound spooky, yet rather nostalgic. It sounds like IRON MAIDEN going through a phase of depression, after falling for Satan. It's the typical kind of album that you combine with periods of your life, and if you listen to it in a tender age, it can actually become the soundtrack of your life. Strictly musically, the riffs are nice, so do the production and the playing rate of the musicians. I found the combination between them great. However, this album is not about the music. It's about the feeling of "Norse Metal" and it's a great feeling.

Generally, musicians tend to limit themselves to the mood of their band. Demonaz was a nice guitarist for IMMORTAL, but he is way better as lone artist.
