DEMOLIZER is a new Thrash band from Denmark, formed in 2018. "Thrashmageddon" is their debut record, set to release on September 11, 2020 via Mighty Music Records. Geared towards fans of the more hardcore Thrash (SLAYER, EXODUS), these guys are carrying on the legacy of those bands with high speed tempos and pounding rhythms that do not relent. Even when dropping into a more melodic tone, they crush the listener.
Kicking this record off is "Copenhagen Burning", a tune that begins with a melodic intro. Once they set you up with a little technical guitar work and a really nice drum pattern, they smack you in the face with a blast beat launch into a fast-paced assault that sets you back in your seat. The band show off their skill sets immediately and emphatically. Whether in the arms of a thrashers dream during the heavy parts, resting up for the next blast in the melodic part or winding down as the song ends, you are hooked.
"Cancer In The Brain" and "NTC" are more of the same. Both will knock your socks off and leave you out of breath. "Bloodshot Eyes" rips through with more guitar wizardry, including some intricate solo work. Whether working together or playing against each other, the guitarists are quite the formidable pair. "Gore" is where you think might get a break. The song is only 49 seconds long, but it sprints from start to fade out finish. No rest for the wicked on this disc.
The rest of the album is all similar. The songs are not "cookie-cutter" pieces by any means. "Until The Day I Die" has a much more melodic feel while still hitting you squarely between the eyes. This is an exciting beginning for a new band. The song structure is fresh and the arrangements are good. Anyone who has listened to some of the bigger bands that play now remember when they started and how they sounded very different, even if just in production quality.
With their dual guitar attack, mostly growled vocals and towering bass/drum melodies cruising under the power chords, DEMOLIZER know how to thrash. These guys aren't following in the footsteps of their heroes, they are standing on the shoulders of the giants who went before them. This is a really good effort for a debut album and sets them up for a greater success in the future. Some bands get it early and refine from there. I expect this is one of those bands. The musicianship is there and maturity in songwriting and composition will follow.
I expect these guys will stick around and get better if they can keep working together and honing their craft. I'm sure 2020 has been a tough year on them (as it has most bands) and if they can come through this intact, then they have a good chance of not just surviving, but thriving, in the years to come. Look for this band to hit some of the European festivals in 2021 and beyond. Once they build that following, let's hope they hit the Americas. They should do well in South and Central America and might even make some headway in the United States if they catch the right tour
