Unleash The Hordes
Demolition Train
I know that there is a saying laying around exampling the notion that there are bands that are doing why they do for the kicks, the thrill of it, just to be there and have fun. However, I sense that it isn't entirely true. Whether you do covers or original material, there is always that burning wish to spread out your wings and show yourself around for people to appreciate. Therefore, one sets a purpose, thus making these efforts significant with a desire to be liked and admired. Opening a Facebook page, for instance, or a page on any social network is the first sign. So why did I bring all this? I checked out these four Greek chaps named DEMOLITION TRAIN, and their debut release "Unleash The Hordes". I felt at first that these guys just wanted to be there with their music, secure a slot in the worldwide scene for them to show their worth with songs that virtually share a close relation to their influences. However, though it would probably take another release, they showed quite an energy that set off a black powder trial for a big boom one day. Furthermore, they clearly demonstrated that they are serious and not just for the kicks and buzzes.
With an impression that there won't be any foot down from the gas pedal of this speed racer, DEMOLITION TRAIN were on the attack from top to bottom, left and right. Revamping the blaze of 80's Speed and Heavy Metal, with minor eavesdrop towards Hard Rock, the band harbored enough of the classic days of MOTORHEAD, METALLICA with cracks of early British Metal, especially of course IRON MAIDEN for starters. "Wrecking Crew", at least on my bill, is their anthem, cracking, right to the face, easy to comprehend and with enough vigor to make you raise your fist. "Exploder" uplifts the speed bars into Lemmy's comfort zone of the 80's, no rest till the fuel for the fire runs out, and it would appear that there is no chance for it to happen. "Demolition Train" continues with the same vibe as the previous numbers, yet its C part, solo section and harmonic guitaring really thrilled me, such an enthusiasm of British Metal spirit so captivating. I can probably add in "Metal Mayhem", "Headcrush" and "All Hell Is Breaking Loose" for making sure that straightforwardness would rule the day, simply no stopping these guys for cause a neck pain due to constant headbanging.
Possibly the reason that I couldn't rate "Unleash The Hordes" is first due to its repetitive motifs. Most of the songs present main riffery that is overdone, and composed throughout the songs and displayed in different variations. The Korakas brothers might explosive in their lead guitar playing, yet when it comes to riffing, they have to work on a formula that would introduce diverse riffing other than versions of the same riffs with inconsequential modifications. Second, DEMOLITION TRAIN attempted to add a certain new juice, probably to answer my previous rant, with Rock N' Roll powered tune like "Chase Your Blues Away" and Grunge serving QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE style "Hell On Earth" singed by Heavy Metal thunder or the Punkish boozed "Kill Your Boss". In generally, these are less than solid. I am not saying that they should stick to the Speed Metal shindig, however, it is possible that it isn't their niche, yet they can work on that as well.
"Unleash The Hordes" is a true fun release, the guys are fans of the 80's, like yours truly, as these were the best days of Heavy Metal and forever will be remembered as such. Conveying their utmost respects for their gods, DEMOLITION TRAIN unleashed as massive strike of old school straightforwardness that is eagerly for one's brain to reshape and eventually crack. Don't expect originality, but these guys sure have the right edge to break some walls with a look towards a positive future. I believe in them.
