The quest of authenticity might come across historical or legendary events. There will be arguments whether of what really took place but it doesn't really matter. The Italian based DELIRIUM X TEREMENS were born and raised in the sight of the Dolomitian Mountains. Their music, which has been perfected since the late 90s, has been immersed by the beauty which they consider as their home field. So why not indulge it? The end result is what they called as Dolomitian Death Metal, meaning in basic Metal terms the infusion of Death Metal, both old and modern, along with various turns of Folk and Black Metal. Following the lore of the land, this compilation turned out quite interesting. Under their local label of Punishment 18 Records, the debut album, "Belo Dunum, Echoes Of The Past", was released into the cold air of the mountain chain.

The band's music has some reminders of old MORBID ANGEL and DEATH characteristics as various of Folk elements colored it to therefore sound different and more or less unique. There were moments of straightforwardness followed by aggressive and harsh manners in up tempo strikes, well it is still a Death Metal album, but in overall the band seemed to had less desire to kick ass and more to tell their stories all portrayed under a mid to slow tempo rhythms bearing heaviness. Although there were times when it was hard to grasp what they were doing, especially in the opening track "I Was" and later on the opening trilogy track of "Life Before Nothing", I found most of what DELIRIUM X TREMENS created as something rather genuine and compelling distributed by a great sound production that mixes both old and new school orientations.

This album is one of those which I encounter rarely mainly because that I liked it even it is not flowing, needless to say accessible. I believe that there is something good going here, like finding a new power source or a newfound power to explore further. Though I don't have the knowledge of the local lore, I enjoyed "33 Days Of Pontificate (Vatican Inc)", which I believed to have a strong message even though I couldn't pinpoint it, and "Scream Of 2000 Scream", which made me assume something like a once war stricken area and the mysterious "An Old Dusty Dream". Both tracks present the highest level of performance this group achieved on this album. As for the rest, it's the beginning of a new being on to become miraculous.
