DELAYHEAD describe their new album "Vol. 40%" like this: "Album holds 10 mass produced tracks that doesn't suck your genitals, no, rather kicks them. Hard. Once you stick this vicious fucker in your CD-Player, it's worth goes sky-high".
Well shit the crib. Now I don't need to review it do I? Unfortunately, I disagree with them. Not on everything, but I would say that this album's worth does not go sky-high so much as just finds a place in your collection where it'll get an occasional play or two over time. Most likely, you'd only want to hear a couple of songs from it anyway.
DELAYHEAD are a Thrash / Heavy Rock band from Sweden (I think) that started just 2 years ago. From what I gather from reading their bio; they're a trio of heavy drinkers who are also a Rock band. That description sounds appropriate as their music often sounds drunk, disoriented, and about to vomit all over your shoes. The lead singer sometimes sounds like James Hetfield and the guitars are pretty much standard Thrash / Hardcore riffs set to very basic drum patterns. Sometimes there is a mild Grunge vibe they've got going on. It sounds cool, but totally unoriginal.
"Vol. 40%" Should have been an EP. It would have been much better in the short-form, because this thing is WAY too fucking long and drawn out as it is. I was so tired of it by the end of "Dark Tomorrow" that I couldn't wait for it to be over with. Sometimes those last 3 or 4 songs are just really unnecessary. The better songs on this are "Glasgow", and "Fucknation" as they are the catchiest in my opinion, and the rest is just alright. The length of this record is what really hurt it when you consider how generic (not necessarily bad) the band's sound is.
If I were you, I'd just grab a few tracks from this record and save the rest of your cash for something else... Oh wait, THERE'S NO MP3 DOWNLOAD! Now, I'm as much for tangible media and doing things the old school way as anyone; Hell, I'd be the first person to recommend releasing albums on Vinyl, but MP3 is a must. The vast majority of music is consumed via digital files these days, whether you like it or not; that's how people are going to hear your music in 2012. Making those unavailable is essetnially shooting yourself in the foot. So that means you either have to buy the album or don't, and that's entirely up to you. I personally wouldn't pay for the entire album, and I'll leave it at that.
