The Reins Of Life

DEGREES OF TRUTH is a progressive symphonic metal band from the deepest northern part of Italy and "The Reins Of Life" is their first full-length debut album.
I would describe the entire album as exceptionally ordinary, there's nothing that would make me say 'wow that's amazing' nor 'wow that's total crap', it just leaves you indifferent.
We have clichéic prog riffs mixed with symphonic elements. Claudia has a nice, clean voice; it was a pleasure to listen to her. The songs are well constructed, the instrumental quite on point but for the life of me I couldn't remember any of the songs after listening to the album. The lyrics are interesting, tackling the 'new world' subject, but I know that only because I googled them, couldn't decipher more than a few words from the songs.
The only thing that stood up a bit was the ending of "Civilization" - the orchestra-like solo that from time to time merged into a prog-like melody. For a first album, the execution is excellent, I will definitely keep an eye on them, hoping that the next release will be more, hmm... authentic, original? Something that will keep me up my toes, something that will make me bug my friend to exhaustion with it.
