Finsterkult
Degotten
As filthy as possible, as cutting as a chainsaw and as rare as flesh, the newfound devilish horde in South America has found its way to Europe to fall on countless of ears to manifest its morbidity. Reimbursing the present with relics of a forlorn past, the Chilean blackened marauders DEGOTTEN assault with everything they have in their old school arsenal, in the name of the dark lord himself. "Finsterkult" hails as their official debut burnt offering to the world, the old echoes come alive once more to haunt and reconquer their standing amongst the ones that left them behind to starve.
Driven by the bright red eyed lust that trooped old acts such as CELTIC FROST, SODOM, DESTRUCTION and DESTROYER 666 to bewildered madness, DEGOTTEN emerged as one of those bands that made it possible to revamp the strong ties between the occult of the underworld in a kind of style that suits the mid to later 80's era. "Finsterkult" is a pretty much straightforward, simple to the bone, break neck speeding tormented EP, nothing exaggeratedly special and even to be rendered as a repetition, rather raw in its production values as expected from such a Black / Thrash Metal variation but nonetheless, making a fair share of hints towards the melodic end of the vintage form.
Personally, the unevenness of the production didn't help me take pleasure in this release, maybe on several of the songs, but I wanted more. It is possible to come up with the same dirtiness of the past nowadays without making the mix scream in pain. However, DEGOTTEN were able to strike with their scythe deep and hard, crossing the sound barrier, with the demonic "Skyless Reborn" and chilling melodic fold of "Frozen in Blackstorm", both tracks showcasing the band's will to bash skulls but also to attribute to the rhythms great lead guitar melodies that truly enriched the music. "I Invoke You, Evil" and "Skeletal War Rites" slide in as the somewhat memorable numbers, made a slight impact yet showed that there is a road to be taken by this band. Stay tuned to these guys.
