DEFIXION are a death metal band from San Diego, California. This is their very first EP and the first of their releases to come under the banner of Xtreem Music. The band has a passion for curses, maledictions and bygone cults. The lyrics in their songs contain magical invocations and occultic curses employed in ancient cultures which the band advises should not be taken lightly or they may be consequences.

It makes sense then that we start off with "Chant to Abalal", an almost instrumental intro track aside from the constant chanting that creates an image of a sacrificial ritual taking place inside an ancient temple. Or that one scene from Temple of Doom where the guy has his heart taken out. We then blast right into "Lux Diurna (Soothing the Gods)" which definitely sets the tone for the rest of the album. This is a fast and furious track with some killer riffs and solos to really set the mood. A damn fine opener and the highlight of the EP for me.

This quickened pace continues through "Sent Below, Sent Nowhere" which is more of a revenge track as the Horosis sings of an unknown being he wants to kill and send below to the depths of hell. Another good track here as the musicianship has to be commended with everyone on point and Eulomon on those drums is just an absolute monster.

"7 Nails for Eulamon" is another highlight as it feels like everyone in the band is just throwing absolutely everything they have at the listener with a totally blistering speed. The lyrics are pretty damn creepy as well as the band seems to be attempting to summon a deity known as Eulamon and I'd hate to see what that looks like in person.
Unfortunately it does feel like proceedings do come to a bit of a halt with the last 2 tracks as they really aren't as memorable as the songs that came before them. "Mazacrium" appears to be the lead single for the EP as it has a music video, but I'm not sure why. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad track by any means, but even after so many listens to this review I could barely remember what it sounded like. It's the same issue with the last track which goes on just a bit too long and doesn't really justify it's length. I do like the fact it ended with the same chanting we heard at the beginning which was some nice continuity.

I did enjoy this EP overall, it's just a shame that the last couple of tracks let it down a bit in comparison to the first few tracks that made quite an impact. It's still enough to get a recommendation from me though.
