Neanderthal
Defect Designer
Metal maniacs, rejoice! I am proud to present to you: DEFECT DESIGNER; signed via Transcending Obscurity Records, hailing from Norwegian grounds - performing Death Metal, on their debut EP entitled: "Neanderthal" (released July 8th, 2022). Since formation in 2005; the quartet in question have a demo entitled: "W" (released April 28th, 2007), a single entitled: "Aa" (released December 25th, 2014), 2 full-length studio albums entitled: "Wax" (released September 7th, 2009) & "Ageing Accelerator" (released July 13th, 2015). Also in their discography is this debut EP of which I am introduced to entitled: "Neanderthal". 7 tracks ranging around 18:17; the band in question arranges an intricately designed formula on some heavy-hitting Death Metal developments.
Opening up with a bulldozing barrage frenzy in boisterously bouncy grinds; an amplified adrenaline in densely yet sulfurous solidity ramifies with rampantly rompy precision - "Neanderthal" bludgeons eardrums with stampeding malice & profusely robust aggression, extremely. While "Wrinkles" injects an infectiously flickering volatility within thumpy rumbler Eyvind W. Axelsen, who belts a clobbering impact in impulsing dexterity - midway, this spectral panache in dynamic but bizarre instrumental hullabaloo conjures up this unique vehemence which to some may feel immensely bonkers and odd. While berserking bombast in "Trolls" shreds with sonically seamless stompiness as hammering drummer Simen Kandola batters his set with steely yet rambunctious mobility, piledriving mayhem makes one want to break chairs over other chairs in no time. Where this trailblazing overdose on vicious aggression distills a strident thud on sturdy madness, where slaying rips pulverize you with striking pursuits of organic substance within "Luddites".
Marin Storm-Olsen on guitars/vocals (backing) attributes a vibrantly potent tactic on monstrously meaty malignance, where rapidly swift nimbleness trembles speakers with rumbling reverberation stability & synergetic meltdowns. While "Vlad" showcases some tight throatiness on raspy gutturals and pig-squealing shrieks from grumbler Dmitry Sukhinin (also on guitars), which is evident within the bleeding firepower expertise in the penultimate rager: "Pigsty". This very short EP overall rampages on with this onslaughting finale but epic instrumental: "Time, Forward", which twins through with towering viscerality and complexly chiseling noise terror should you fancy it. Expect scouring snares & pugnacious listening experiences while worthy of spinning & replaying, DEFECT DESIGNER applies greatly to the merged subgenres with versatile utilities amongst an enjoyable experience which will surely frolic heads on top of galloping bones into dust while smashing souls towards oblivion. One to tide you over until the next offering, do check it out.
