DEF-CON-ONE comes from Defense Condition 1 and means; In the expectation of an immediate (military) attack. And the name DEF-CON-ONE just perfectly suits this band that was founded by Antton Lant and Johnny Hunter who shared a quest to make their music sound harder and heavier. When they did find the vocalist Davey Meikle and the Bass player Steve Miller, they did certainly succeed to accomplish that with their debut Album "Warface" released through Scarlet Records. The album is a full blown attack, not to destroy but more like an angry and frustrating scream to wake up, to get a grip, to defend and fight for yourself, wrapped in Groove Metal influenced by Punk. This is a heavy combination of musical elements, brought with will power and passion.
Who doesn't know the feeling of wanting to shake people up, including ourselves. Well I do. Have kicked my own behind to make myself get up and start walking many times. Life isn't always great, and it can always get worse, especially if we give up and let it happen. "Warface" from DEF-CON-ONE is a kick ass album that's not only heavy, aggressive and harsh. It's also an album filled with understanding and compassion, why else taking the trouble to try to wake up and deliver the powerful energy that's needed to get a grasp at the will and get up.
The Album starts as an explosive right away, but with room to breathe. Screams and growls are almost as easy to follow as the clean voices and the drums are just as persistent, just like the bass and guitar players with their mixed styles in a heavy outlet. Even the 'slower' songs like "Holding On" and "Feeling So Cold" are drenched with anger and passion, always remembering, shielding and or attacking somehow. The songs are connected to each other, but this album does not sound like you're listening to a one big song. Every song holds a point of view wrapped in their own styles, rhythms, voices, lines and feelings and the one thing that all songs do have in common is that they are all kick ass songs.
What I personally liked most about this album "Warface" is the way growls, screams and clean voices are working together in a synergy in every particular song and how they perfectly mingle with each other and the music lines. I also love the overall heavy and angry like sound that blows away, but that does provide a solid ground to stand on at the same time. These guys are experienced, driven and their chemistry together adds to that. They're drawing from their own life experiences to write the songs which explain the depth and personal power brought the DEF-CON-ONE way.
