DECONSTRUCTING SEQUENCE is a newly created band from the ashes of NORTHWAIL. In 2013, in the UK, it was decided that the ways of Extreme Progressive Art should continue on. The art that the band creates includes a blend of Black Metal, Death Metal, Extreme Metal, Avant-garde Metal, and of course Progressive Metal. With the metal mixture so thick, they came up with their own genre of Extreme Progressive Art. DECONSTRUCTING SEQUENCE enjoys creating a mix of techniques, atmosphere, and brutality that follow in the footsteps of bands such as NILE, ARCTURUS, and GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT.

DECONSTRUCTING SEQUENCE has released their first EP "Access Code" in late 2014. "Access Code" has two tracks with a listening time of 16 minutes. For a two track EP, 16 minutes is impressive, averaging eight minutes per track.

"Access Code" starts with "A Habitable World is Found". It starts as a spoken piece that is a continuous factor throughout. There are some growled vocals that are so gritty and low and awesome, I would have loved to have heard those much more than the spoken word. The music is incredible. I would have also preferred to just listen to an instrumental explaining the space story instead of the spoken word. However, I see the creativity behind why they did what they did. It makes sense in the context of the music. I think it took away from the flow and the masterful music the guys created. The music itself told the story. The guitars and synthesis are phenomenal. It is incredible all the elements this music can take on and still sound perfect. The music and growled vocals in "A Habitable World is Found" are amazing, the spoken portion while not out of place and makes sense, it takes away from the beauty the piece is.

The second track on the EP is "We Have the Access Code", which was much more of a complete music sound. The vocals are perfect. They contend with my favorite top growled vocalists. There are spoken sections scattered throughout, but much less than in the first, making it have better placement within the piece. The skillfulness of the musicianship in this track is significant, and this time you get to hear it a lot better and a lot more than in the first track. The guitars have riffs that are out of this world and solos that are memorable.

"Access Code" is the perfect EP for those who are lovers of science fiction and for those who are lovers of good Metal. DECONSTRUCTING SEQUENCE are creative, story tellers, and most of all brilliant musicians. Give this EP a listen. Hopefully this is just the beginning for them in this incarnation.
