December In Red - The Way Out album cover

Every day I hear about all sorts of new bands; now how many I actually end up listening to is a different story. There's a reason for that though, many new bands try to emulate other bands and sound exactly like this other band. If I wanted to listen to that band, I would listen to the original, so you lost me already. Anyways, this is DECEMBER IN RED and their new album "The Way Out" and they did something to interest me; they created something new, using two things I knew fairly well, Nu-Metal and Metalcore to create some crazy Nu-Metalcore hybrid. Although, what I'm told is they're advertised as Modern Metal, I'm gonna stick to Nu-Metalcore because its much more precise.

The album opens with a song called "The Call" and it clicked in right away. The bass style and presentation reminds me instantly of KORN, but this song is almost constant breakdowns, like 95% of it. Not a horrible thing because it actually fits the song, the song itself as a whole actually sounds like it could be a KORN song back when they were.. Good... Shots fired. The song is in and out pretty quick, the vocals are mainly clean although there are some harsher ones. Vocalist Del is a rather good Rock vocalist with his clean, where his harshes take on a more typical Metalcore sound, some good and some not so good. Skipping ahead to the last song, "Don't Look So Surprised" I wasn't sure what to think of this one, the introduction is an almost electronic scream before the song breaks into a soft, clean verse. For the most part the song remains soft only breaking into a semi heavy section right near the end and exiting with a pretty piano portion. Oh, and the album has a song called "Hadouken" so.. You know..

This is a band who created something new out of something old; what this equals up to is something pretty awesome. I don't have much bad to say about the album as a whole, I can just hope in future releases Del picks up and hones his harsh vocals a little bit more, all in all well done and yes, I'm sticking with the fact that DECEMBER IN RED and their new album, "The Way Out", is Nu-Metalcore.<
