DECADAWN is Canadian Melodic Death Metal band formed in 2001, and right now they release their debut album entitled "Solitary Confinement". An album with a good production where they talk about sadness and of course death, the band has a very clean sound with good guitar harmonies, thrashy riffs and great solos. However, I don't think Death Metal is much of their style and also the music is a bit mainstream to my taste. First track "Disappear" good guitars sounding more like a Power Metal band, good vocals quite aggressive and lots of variation on the song, one thing that caught my attention is the Swedish influence they have. It really sounds like IN FLAMES, AT THE GATES, the latter one an excellent band for sure. "It All Ends Today" is nice and clean with a great melodies and raspy vocals, blast beats, the chorus I don't like, good song thou. To be honest, when I saw that they were from Canada, I was expecting more from them, perhaps it is just my taste for Canadians bands when I expect them to be like RAZOR, EXCITER, KATALYSM, SACRIFICE and so forth, and I am sure lots of people will enjoy this album thou. "Take You There" is same in here; good vocals and well arranged song. "Ever Black" has killer solos and definitely sounding like AT THE GATES, which is good, very good song, excellent vocals and awesome drumming!
For the title track they did something special; they brought in Tomas Lindberg of AT THE GATES, I mean, it worked perfectly, great song with a good speed and tones of variations. "Falling Down" and "Even The Devil Hates You" are two songs with great chorus, and I must say, the latter one I like best, the vocals style is very good and very aggressive, I like it a lot. DECADAWN indeed came up with the goods, a very modern sound and approach, nothing that I have not seen before, but they managed to get away with it, despite not having any deal as yet with any label; they did produce by themselves, a very good album indeed, good lyrics also and the art cover is quite impressive as well. "Until Dawn", "Hypochrist" and "The Running Man" summons up their good work with style.<
