Debauchery - Back In Blood album cover

Does the album title remind you of something? If not, better go listen to something else than Hard Rock and Metal. If you understood what I am saying, this is a trick by DEBAUCHERY to remind people of the classic AC/DC album Back In Black (1980). They try to give a bloody answer to AC/DC's milestone, at least that's what the promo says. Even if they say this for fun, it is a sacrilege!

Formed in 2000, DEBAUCHERY have already released four full-length albums without having released any promo or demo CD's. It sure seems strange to me folks. Their first album was released through MDD Records, their second and third through Black Attack Records and this one, through AFM Records. In 2005, they toured with SIX FEET UNDER and in 2006 with DISMEMBER. I have to listen to this album carefully to see what made them sign a contract with AFM and tour with such acts!

I haven't listened to previous releases of this band, so I can't make any comparison with earlier albums, but Back In Blood is an album that has been clearly influenced by one of the most well-known Death Metal bands out there, SIX FEET UNDER. This album is groovy, heavy and definitely, Death Metal. The bio note on the promo CD says that the band was compared with CANNIBAL CORPSE (speed), BENEDICTION (groove) and HYPOCRISY (hymns). When I read it, I couldn't stop laughing! Honestly, this band has nothing in common with the hyper technical gods of Death Metal (CANNIBAL CORPSE). Not even the speed! A comparison with HYPOCRISY? I don't think so. Every single element in this band's music screams SIX FEET UNDER. Even the singer tries to imitate Barnes' voice. I can say that he manages to do it very good and if he doesn't use any pedals and stuff, he is a real beast! The guitars are fucking heavy and the guitarists owe this to the producer, who has done a really nice job regarding the overall sound.

Regarding the second disc that contains covers, I can't have a complete opinion since the promo I hold in my hands has only three songs. I have only listened to I Can't Dance, Weisses Fleisch and 8 Days A Week. There are four more covers that I didn't have the chance to listen to. Anyway, from the three songs in the promo CD, I have to say only one thing, SIX FEET UNDER again! Even the covers reminded me of the way the American deathsters play cover songs. This band is nothing more than a copy/paste group of five guys, who still haven't found their own sound, after four full-length albums.

First it was TORTURE KILLER, now DEBAUCHERY. There are many SIX FEET UNDER clones out there lately and I am getting a bit worried. It is a pity, since these guys seem talented enough to create great Death Metal. I hope they realize that they have great abilities and create a more personal sound. Until then, listen to some SIX FEET UNDER!
