The Fourth Horseman
Deathwish
To mix Heavy Metal melodies with the adrenaline and nasty appeal of Punk Rock and Hardcore isn’t something new, because MOTÖRHEAD started such thing back in the 70s, and acts as WARFARE, TANK, VOIVOD (on its early works) and many others followed such ways. But’s still a source of inspiration for many younger bands, as heard on “The Fourth Horseman”, the new album of the North American quartet DEATHWISH. Such a piece of catchy aggressiveness was recorded and mixed by Marc Birr (with some help of Nick Weyers) and lead guitar tracks recorded by Adam Tucker, while the mastering was done by Joel Grind.
The result: an organic and filthy sonority that is defined and enables the listeners to take the best of the quartet’s music. Prepare your ears! Again: to mix Hardcore, Punk Rock and Heavy Metal influences isn’t a new thing at all, but the quart does things on a hooking and personal way, puking pure energy to every side. And besides their music isn’t complex, it has a care with the instrumental arrangements that is clear to the ears. It’s filthy and spontaneous, but built with wisdom and care. And it’s a very good way to detonate with your eardrums!
Sometimes being presented on a more Punk Rock way (as heard on the incredible “In Cold Blood”, “Rain Fire” and “Hell in My Head”) on others into a ‘motorheadian’ Rock ‘n’ Roll way (as heard on “Kings of the Road” and on the charming “Aftermath”), sometimes more into a massive Hardcore way (“Aces and Eights” has that vide that brings to mind works from DISCHARGE and G.B.H.), and sometimes imposing their own personal grip on things (heard on “Mainline Rock ‘n’ Roll”, “Bring Down the Hammer”, “Edge of the Knife” and “The 4th Horseman”), the quartet presents the fans with an excellent work, indeed.
What? Do you still want to know how “The Fourth Horseman” is excellent? Listen to it, because DEATHWISH’s music is a great experience!
