Some bands evoke the label 'Metal Punk', but in reality, they're just playing a form of Old School extreme metal forms, in general Black Metal, Death Metal or extreme Thrash Metal (have in mind that early German Thrash Metal is more extreme than US Thrash Metal that is based on a melodic form). So this road is dangerous and one must have in mind that must play in a personal way to make things great (because no one can live off others' works, or in other words, it's not fair to be a Metal pimp after all). And the experienced German quintet DEATHRITE shows that they're on the right path with "Delirium", their latest release.

Their musical work is based on a form of Death Metal that's is extremely near of Black Metal and German Thrash Metal (in the early days of the genre, things were in this way), plenty of Hardcore and dirty Rock 'n' Roll influences (something inherited of MOTÖRHEAD), and one can think in names as VENOM, HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST, SODOM and early SLAYER's albums. But have in mind: these guys are working with their own hearts, breathing new life on an old musical form, and it is filled with massive energy and aggressiveness, but with many Old School hooks as well. Recorded and mixed by Anton Hoyer, and mastered by Ruben Willem, this EP displays a filthy sonority inspired in the past. But have in mind that they don't deny to use a careful and defined sound to let their music be understood by the listeners (especially in moments as "Someone to Bleed With"). It's really good.

These songs are really charming, and one can have as a set to begin with "Delirium" (a brutal crushing song with a massive Old School set of guitar riffs and intense heavy grasp), "Repulsive Obsession" (where dirty Hard Rock touches can be heard, even with the piledriving work of bass guitar and drums), "Someone to Bleed With" (a slow and oppressive song with some somber melodies, and what great work of the vocals, displaying aggressiveness and melancholy in some points), "Vortex" (a morbid oppressiveness comes from this one, especially on the slower moments), and "Sepulchral Rapture". Yes, all the songs are excellent.

DEATHRITE really shows a very good work on "Delirium", but their full potential isn't being used on it. And the fans will hope that their next album can display it!
