Death Will Tremble - Departures album cover

Hailing from Austin, Texas, Townsend brothers DEATH WILL TREMBLE, are offering us a second opus, two years after the launch of "Mona". Instead of doing it the standard way they choose to make only one song for about 15 minutes. BELL WITCH did the same approach as SLEEP did too with "Dopesmoker." One word comes to mind after this experience: Emotional. Not that emo thing at all, just a wide variety of emotions displayed during this whole song. Post-hardcore...? Angry post-rock? Intense, rough, raw, and sophisticated music. Now i understand why they wanted to put this entire work into one piece: To keep the listener in, and to continue this grab and being able to push us a little more farther without being interrupted. It works. Being held captive in this maelstrom of complex, hazardous expressions was worth it.

We have kind of multiples layers here. They build a wall of sound of extremely driven guitars, uplifting the feel, the building a wall of sound that envelops the listener and they cut it down through sad guitar acoustics from time to time and still wrapping us in shades of sadness and despair. Grief is everywhere, but i love it. They have a style of their own and they master it well. I don't know if they use cinematics live but I strongly recommend it. Their music is worthy any great "NOIR" movie and they know this already because their video for "Departures," I quite in the genre. The vocals are well done and quite effective. Not for everyone though, if you had a very bad day and you feel like taking a beer with the reaper at Hell's pub, maybe you should wait a little before venturing here, because its desperation here, and serious bleakness. I am very used to this kind of music, but I should tell I was surprised and charged emotionally righter after listening to it. I guess they did succeeded in what they aimed for, really. I hope to see them live here in my hometown. You're welcome here in Montreal! You like Doom? You like your music emotionally driven and sad? Search no more!
