Altered Dimension
Death From Above

As Death Metal evolved since the days when HELLHAMMER, DEATH, POSSESSED, DEATHSTRIKE, MASSACRE and other pioneers of the genre, many forms of playing it were being constructed. This is due the fact that the bands are always trying to create something of their own, to be more than a name to be spoken and to have a career than can lasts throughout the years. But there are two different trenches on the genre: those that evolved and embraced the change, and those who prefer to have a conservative point of view on their work. But the French quartet DEATH FROM ABOVE is trying something different on their first album, "Altered Dimension".
In some aspects, their musical work has a traditional Death Metal outfit (even with some Thrash metal touches); on others, it brings some influences from the younger tendencies (as the technical care on some moments that reminds what NOCTURNUS was about on their early works). It's brutal and full of an aggressive energy, but with a careful insight on the construction of the songs' arrangements. And it's really hooking a feast for all those that are into extreme Metal genres. The building of the album's sonority is a point where the old and the new coexist. It's brutal and shows crude instrumental tunes, but with a modern definition to help the full understanding of what the band is trying to express on each song. Of course, it can become better in the future, but such sound quality catches the seminal purpose of the band's music.
Songs as "Power of Demons" (a strong and spine-crushing weight comes from this one, with a very good and technical work of the guitars on riffs and solos), "Omega Destroyer" (where some Thrash Metal-like arrangements can be heard, and what a massive rhythm is created by bass guitar and drums), "Altered Dimension" (an oppressive song filled with massive aggressiveness and good grunts that can become better in the future), "Parasite Hive" (one of their greatest moments, a song with everything working in the due way, and filled with many hooks), and "Pure Extermination" (the slow parts are perfect) are depicting perfectly that a titan is arising in Bayonne, and can tear the world asunder with their music!
Yes, DEATH FROM ABOVE is a talented band, and has potential to face the trials of the consolidated names of the genre, and maybe "Altered Dimension" can be remembered in the future was the birth of a great name of the genre.
