Trash/death metal act from France, DEATH CONTROL came into life in 2013 and into the scene in 2015 with a self titled EP, before publishing their sophomore 'Awaiting Us All' earlier this years, via Great Dane Records, pushing forward their powerful sound and heavy riffs. (unfortunately, I read on their FB page that they parted ways with singer Steeve last month and they're looking for a replacement).

All the 10 tracks of this EP (aside from the instrumental intro) solidly stand on the guitar riffs, swinging between aggressive death metal riffs and trashy layouts, while vocals mostly insist on the trashier and hardcore side, with occasional incursions to a more old-school death metal voice: all this swinging back and forth is able to give texture and dynamicity to the whole EP, while maintaining unity and clipping the tracks together as if it was all designed as a one piece.

'The Beast', true to its name, opens the actual album with trashing riffs and shows influences from Swedish death (like first AT THE GATES or some BLOODBATH) in its shattering but groovy pace. 'Rat's Army' shows proper combination of trashy voice and growl, over heavy riffs, just to stop in the middle and restart even faster with more hardcore vocals.

Blast beats and guitar riffs sudden bursts follow with 'Absurd Massacre', while in 'Exhume To Perfume' we clearly see in the surface a more trash soul. A burst-driven crescendo in the riffs, but still open to breakdowns and restarts, and blast beat drum characterize following 'The Blind And The Maggots'. 'Groovy Cadaver' seems to go towards a more metalcore side: this is more evident in the following 'Satisfy Your Urges' where vocals clearly bloom into hardcore, while a groovy texture in a MESHUGGAH style grows under it. Tapping with your feet and body looks compulsory in the next 'Omnipresence Companion'. 'Cobaye 77' closes the album as it's been in the last 40 minutes: powerful and fast.

This sophomore album seems pretty promising: vigorous, raw power unleashed and leashed in a proper way, which give most of the songs memorability but still, as said before, it works well as whole. Band members know their skills and how to lay them down at the service of composition as well as the vocal range, always hopping through genres in a seamless way. Let's hope these guys find soon a proper replacement for Steeve as it would be a shame for this potential to go wasted.
