Founded on 1982 by four cousins, all descendants from Filipinos, they joined forces with the singer Mark Osegueda, received great attention for their music, released on 1986 a legendary Demo Tape called "Kill As One" (that was produced by Kirk Hammet), and then, on 1987, released their classic first album, "The Ultra-Violence". Receiving a great response from the fans, they gathered then and released on 1988 their second album, "Frolic Through the Park", the reissue that we have on hands now.But what could be the reason for this new release for the album, some can ask, and the answer is simple: hear it and you will understand.

A bit more polite and technically worked than "The Ultra-Violence", the band was showing back then the power of their Thrash Metal whipping fury, with very good technique and putting very good melodies on their violent work. Mark's voice was a bit more worked, as his diction is better; both Rob Cavestany and Gus Pepa on guitars were excellent, playing great and different riffs, creating a strong and personal work on six strings; and Dennis Pepa and Andy Galeon were playing in a very technical and heavy form on the album, creating excellent rhythmic changes, turning DEATH ANGEL's music a bit more complex. I dare to say if they gathered more attention on those years, the North American Big Four could be a bit different than we know now...Rob Cavestany and Andy Galeon produced the album, having Davy Vain along with them on production and on mixing, and Michael Rosen on mixing. The result, for those times, is something heavy and aggressive, but clean. And that's enough for them, besides even on 1988, it could be a bit better. And the art of Sam Haffner on the cover, according with an interview on 1989, means a man's life since his childhood to his old days DEATH ANGEL's music is still aggressive on "Frolic Through the Park", but with some elegant moments.

And songs as the fast "3rd Floor" (with very good riffs and excellent backing vocals), the technical and full of rhythmic changes "Why You Do This" (here their Hardcore influence is extremely clear on riffs, but bass and drums are really fantastic), the technical attack executed on "Bored" (once more, excellent guitars, but the vocals are really excellent), the powerful and aggressive shock caused by "Devil's Metal" (that begins sinister with very good melodies on guitars, but then, a mid tempo attack starts, having very good rhythmic changes and a technical work done by bass and drums once more), the excellent and bitter "Confused" (this one has the vocals done by Rob and Dennis, with heavy weight and slow tempos), the violent hymn "Shores of Sin", and finally their version for "Cold Gin" (an old KISS song) that got some of their musical fury. But this re-issue version has three good bonus songs, "Dehumanization", "Silent Killers", (an excellent song, with very good vocals and guitars) and "Witches Of Knave".

Yes, DEATH ANGEL could have turned the Big Four on Big Five, if the fans back on the eighties gave them more attention (and the band had a better promotion). But by now, "Frolic Through The Park" still is an amazing album), and then, on 1987, released their classic first album, "The Ultra-Violence".
