The wondering off daydream for a Rock N' Roll career was and old wish of many musical talents worldwide. Near the end of the 80s, two guys decided to take a hold of their dreams and to form a band in their home city of Chicago after the Los Angeles reverie fell to bits. Even though in the long run DEAR DIARY fell apart due to the collapse of the local scene, there able to touch the craving and have some fun for a couple of years.

The organized self-titled, "Dear Diary", is a reminder that a band existed. These guys felt Hard Rock mixed with a sweet, tender touch of Glam Metal. Although they haven't changed nothing in the music, as they were similar to many bands of their age, their contribution is well noted and they gave an opportunity to hear some finer tunes of their era and perception.

DEAR DIARY employed their influences, which range from DEF LEPPARD, STYX, DOKKEN and DIVING FOR PEALS, rather well. Their music was simple and to the point. The Hard Rock blood flared with cool 80s grooves, maniacal solos, mid tempo beats, yet, followed by an AOR like type of vocals that keeps on being rougher as every song passes along. With the music, there was the band's sound. A wonderful crunchy stuff, not to original as many used it, but it went well with their catchy material.

Judging by those performers, they could have fulfilled the dream if they didn't give it up to Grunge, a dead musical approach that lasted for a little time. You probably know and hear that the new wave of Glam Metal from Sweden and the re-created US scene proved that nothing could beat this style, no matter what. Moreover, I think that the train never left the station for DEAR DIARY; it was always waiting for them. The belief that they never amazed because there were so many bands out there that did the same, doesn't cut it in my book.

As their history tells, DEAR DIARY can be opened again for business; their old material taken from a few demos is worthwhile for fans of the sub-genre and for whoever wants to listen to some bash songs. I say the dream never ends other if you drive it to its end even if you are another thorn in a huge field.
