One of the most successful genres of the latest years is the Industrial Metal. DEADSTAR ASSEMBLY represents the genre since they formed in Florida in 2001. 14 years after, the band created some of the best songs in the genre and continues to make great album. This is the fourth album that the band released, 5 years after the mighty "Coast Of Arms", and I had a chance to hear it. So have the band managed to do it a fourth time?
The first single is the album titled song "Blame It On The Devil". It's a hardcore Industrial song that for a minute I thought that I heard MARILYIN MANSON. It doesn't seem that the band trying to do something clever or anything that will be different than what they already did. The band doing what they are doing well and it's to do a very entreating music.
The album is basically fun, the funs of RAMMSTEIN and will really feel like they are in home. The production is amazing, the sound is clear and fun to hear, and the performances of the band are impressive.
However, there is one problem: most of the album doesn't really feels like DEADSTAR ASSEMBLY. It's nice that the band is doing something different, but still it's not the bravery and the that the band showed in songs like "Send Me An Angel" and "Killing Myself Again" that stretched the boundaries of the genre.
In most of the album, the band shows less creativity and more leaning on material that other bands created. Still there are some very good songs like "Filth"," Baptized By Fire" that showing some great creativity alongside to some crazy guitar parts. The best song in the album for my opinion is "Amulet".
In the bottom line, the album is nice, it has a very great performance in the technical side and the band managed to do things that some legendary bands couldn't have done in millions of dollars if budget. The problem was in the writing process of the songs. It seems that the band is too dependent on the production and in the effects that the writing process became more and more dependent on it and less on the creativity.
Still the magic of the band didn't disappear, and they did create some really great songs alongside to some songs that do not quite stand up to the others.
