The Cosmic Haze and the Human Race

A fine sample how to be creative into Space Rock, Acid Rock and Psychedelic Rock is shown by this Italian quartet.

There acts between the wave of THE WHO, THE BEATLES and THE ROLLING STONES and the other one unleashed by BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN and DEEP PURPLE that are seminal for the creation of Psychedelic Rock, Stoner Rock, Space Rock and other labels that define the works of band that play into a more organic and old-fashioned way. Bands as THE YARDBIRDS, BLUE CHEER, HAWKWIND, JEFFERSON AIRPLANE, JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE, THE CREAM IRON BUTTERFLY, VANILLA FUDGE, and even COVEN and THE BLACK WIDOW helped to build such ways. Ways that influence many today, as the Italian quartet DEADPEACH, here presenting their latest release, the full-length “The Cosmic Haze and the Human Race”.

The recordings and mixing took place at Duna Studio di Russi, with Andrea Scardovi taking care of both parts. And the idea was to bring the most organic sonority possible (sometimes it seems that the quartet just entered the studio, set their gears and just played without caring with future digital editions), with simple instrumental tunes. And it works, because it’s defined and clean, what means that everyone can understand what’s being played (including the perfect Hammond organ parts on “Man on the Hill”). And the artwork done by Grazia La Padula is filled with many psychedelic ideas. The quartet plays into a form of mix between Acid Rock, Space Rock and Psychedelic Rock full of a deep organic insight, full of intense grooves, and a fluid guitar work. It means that the band has a tough and nasty appeal, but always with charming melodies. But pay attention: the band has the ability of creating very good and catchy arrangements (take a listen to “Cherchio” to understand such an affirmative), so the listeners will never get bored of the songs.

The band was formed on 1993, and its musicians have tons of experience on their shoulders, what makes tasteful the hearing of moments as “Madras” (the contrasts between introspective parts with abrasive ones promoted by the band is very good, and what good guitar riffs and arrangements), “Motor Peach” (an intense and frantic song, with very good melodic singing), “Cherchio” (where the band spew out all of its Space Rock/Progressive Rock influences, with a tender set of guitars’ arrangements), and “Set the Control to Mother Earth” an experience that fans of such genres will enjoy a lot.

It’s clear that “The Cosmic Haze and the Human Race” is a very good release, and fans of Stoner Rock, Space Rock, Psychedelic Rock or any other label one could think of will like a lot DEADPEACH’s work.
