Deadend In Venice - See You On The Underground album cover

It all began in 2008 when several childhood friends from Germany decided to start their own band as a vision. That same dream recognized as DEADEND IN VENICE leads them through that same year to release their first demo album and later on a second one in 2009. A year later the band started to work on their debut album and there it is,"See You On The Ground", presented by Rock N' Growl Promotions.

When I started playing the CD I thought to myself "Great, it is another melodic Death Metal album", but after a while it turned out. It actually changed my perspective right through the first song coming from the break in the music and the groove part that caught my ear very fast. What contributed to my thought pattern was the clean voice singing of their female vocals Anabell. However, I didn't understand one thing in the song. I felt suddenly that the sound outline was changing and sounded open than on the first minutes. I didn't know if it was on purpose or not but it was weird to notice it."Brain Execution" is one of their greatest songs. The dynamics between the growls that brought the tougher side and the clean vocals that enabled the tenderness made the combination sound so good and professional. The opening melodic guitar riff with the harmonies was a killer one and lead the song all the way aside to the rhythm riffs.

It feels like DEADEND IN VENICE mixed melodic Death Metal with Power Metal riffs while their guitar solos were influenced by Heavy Metal. That, as I see it, made them so unique besides the female appearance in the songs. The best example for that is on their song "Long Way Home". Their last song "Dirty Little Princess" showed other side of them, yet it still melodic but has a poppy feel. The melodic singing is very nice but I think that Anabell could have brought more sentiment to her singing.

I found DEADEND IN VENICE as a very interesting band. They didn't try to be sophisticated in their songs. They have catchy verses and choruses that made it easier to fall in love with their songs and connect to them.
