Dead River Runs Dry

When I received this promo I didn't really know what to think of it at first, from the sound and the idea of each song there was something dark and disturbing about the tone which made me a tad bit wary, but as I continued on I found that this record had something which a lot of bands don't have, it has originality in it's own way, as well as an idea which truly takes you to a whole new level.
"Initium - Immolating the Burden of Hope"
From every second that passes this track holds some very dark and very vivid sounds which can terrify the mind body and soul, I love how it works so well though, it feels like an intro but it is it's own song and it's own idea which for me listening makes it something special as it pierces the mind and sets you off.
"Only Skies Remain"
We officially start the record off with the track "Only Skies Remain", from the start we're welcomed by this brutal force of sound that takes control and beats it's massive tone into your mind, but what is it that makes this track stand out though? Well, simply put it holds some very different ideas compared to traditional Black Metal as it has some very distinctive sounds that resemble Death and Thrash as well as some groove elements that can be found within the guitars and drums, it is easy to say that the band have created something that I feel makes them recognizable to the ear for future releases and that's what I can respect about this track most that they have their own sound.
"Stormreaper"
I think one of the things I've come to love about this record is that every song I different and has it's own identity which for a first release is impressive as it shows that the guys have ideas which come to make some very strong and very intense material. The song starts off with a very fine groove and riff combo which already has me excited over what this track could possibly hold for me the listener, I find that the riffs being used for this track are focused on the progressive side of things rather then the brutal and aggressive as there is this pattern of chord changes which could be mistaken for progressive Black Metal of sorts. What else makes this claim solid are the drums patterns used within the track that show that the band have ideas that aren't just about being heavy and dark but showing the fans that they are a band that have taken inspiration from the first wave and have now expanded those ideas into this.
"Melodicio de la Peste Negre"
As we come to the next track we see the band go into a slower tone to which proves my point that this band are doing something different for every track, and for me that is brilliant to see in a modern band such as this, I find that with this track we see a slower to heavier ratio that works incredibly well, the structure of this song keeps on stacking higher and higher bringing some incredible tones to the table and showing that even basic chords can be impressive if put into the right mix.
"Skull of the Wind"
To this track I am focusing more on the drums to be very honest as there is this really powerful beat that I can't seem to ignore, the technique used on this track is incredible to say the least as the drums are so well played and have some incredible flow to them, mixed along with the tone of the bass and guitar we see an example of a band that have made sure that every instrument has it's own personality and shows just what they can do when they put their minds to it, I'd have to say that from every track on this record that this one is by far my favourite among the entire record as it has something which stands out completely.
"Bow Your Head, Scum"
As I keep going through this record it still amazes me as to how much soul this record has and how much energy is being displayed before me, I feel that with this record there is a high hope for the future of extreme music and if this band can keep this raw energy going then we are safe. The tone the power and the energy being displayed on this one song is an example of ho to create kick ass music and bring it hard, I'm loving every second of this and I just can't get enough of it, not only does it hold some very old school ideas but it fuses together new and more extreme ideas mixed with a very technical tone of ideas.
"Revenge Upon Fate"
The tone is a very folkish if I may be honest as it sounds like old country music mixed with Immortal, this is really et best way to describe the sound and structure I would have to say as there are different things happening at once making a very interesting one which I find pleasant and very relaxing, weird to say I know, but there is this mix of ideas being shown to me at this moment. I feel that with this one track they went into a very different area which works for what the song is doing at this very moment, though I don't lie when I say it feels like a very deep chaos taking over which can be found in the guitars and the bass as well, though all in all it works well.
"Hyperic Vortex"
As I mentioned before the record shows different shades of the band and when it comes to this one track we see the band go more progressive in terms to the guitars as we hear more tremolo picking through this track which is different compared to the structure of the rest of the record, though it works because we see the band combining together multiple sounds and techniques to create something massive and powerful to the ears, this is truly an example of a band that puts their minds to it to create incredible music.
"By Hook or By Crook"
Slow and very eerie, these are the words tat come to mind when listening to this monster of a track, as we come to the second to last track on the record we see the band go deeper into their darker roots and take from it a sound and a structure that creates a very large and hypnotic tone which comes together in a very chaotic way, this is what e expect to see on this record in every shape and form and that is why we love it so much because the band take upon themselves to make something like this come to life.
"For the Fallen"
So we now come to the end of the record, after a long journey e see the band end on a harmonic note, both beautiful and pleasant but at the same time keeping to what the band stand for in terms of sound and structure, though weirdly enough it reminds me of Enslaved in some way which I find to be a great aspect to the track, while at the same time there are some very familiar tones in this track which could be mistaken for Viking metal, but as we see the band keep to their form and bring together a champion of a track in every way.
To conclude, I find that this record is one of the most impressive I have reviewed in a long while, it holds up with strength and inspiration to which I feel is a major key in a band trying to stand out, the record itself though is a powerful idea which I hope guides this band to bigger things.
