The Mobius Hammersmith
Dead Earth Politics

"Classic IRON MAIDEN trading blows with LAMB OF GOD". That is a description the band wrote for themselves, and you shall see that comparison everywhere you see the name DEAD EARTH POLITICS. It's a strong name, one that is backed with Ven Scott's phenomenal and powerful vocal range, great writing, and the heavy but technical playing style. The guitar work is impressive, as is the overall sound, which is scattered but uniquely DEAD EARTH POLITICS. This feels like a well-done jam session where the crew just put all of their best ideas into one EP.
"Runescarred" comes with a thundering intro and a powerful chorus - the official music video can be seen in the linked video. "The Mobius Hammersmith" the albums second track, is a high-energy outing that slams you around and makes one feel like diving into a mosh pit headfirst. "Balancing Broken Scales" starts off quietly with a short acoustic guitar riff before leaping into the real Metal. This track has an astounding bridge and an amazing balance between all of the musical elements that make it a phenomenal track; this one is definitely my favorite track on this EP. "Wretched Things" has this really groovy, smooth intro that is almost like something I could hear Carlos Santana playing; it is these elements of genre mixing, sound experimentation and incorporation of different instruments that make Progressive sub-genres so interesting to me.
The finale is "Broad Wings and Distant Shores"; which has to have the harshest, heaviest qualities out of any of the songs on the EP. All in all, it's a great song with a consistent energy and is a solid high note to end on.
I often complain about padded tracklists, and this album is an example of when less is more. I found myself instantly wanting and demanding more, which is always a sign of great talent and showmanship. This is real evidence that this is the best album DEAD EARTH POLITICS have ever put out. It manages to be fun, heavy, technical, laidback, and professional all at once. This is a band in their prime, who are confident in their skills and with the support of their fans in allowing them do what they want and have fun with it. That latter sentiment truly speaks through the music and makes me hungry for more.
