DEAD CITY SOULS are a UK based hard rock band with a hard hitting sound. Their debut self-titled EP is a record full of songs that the band has clearly spent time and thought writing.

Opening up with "Embark", the band kicks into motion with some clean guitars building atmosphere in this instrumental intro before hitting hard with the meaty riffs of "Back Against" which has some unconventional chords in play for this sort of style. It works really well though! The vocal is pretty damn good, with some good use of vocal chord compression and some good lyrical content too. The chorus is really cool too, showing off Jordan Davies' more melodic vocal.

The EP has a good vibe throughout, with nice heavy riffs full of energy, such as in "Breathe" and "Say Goodnight." The band showcases their ability to write great riffs and hold a great groove as well. Personally, "Save Me" is a highlight, with some great songwriting on display, and some really chunky riffs meeting some cool lead guitar lines and a powerful vocal.

The EP ends on "Watch The World End" and this is a song full of high-energy rock that rounds out the release nicely, with some cool chanting vocals and some great playing throughout.

The production is really quite good, especially for an EP like this. It all mixes well together and has a nice tight overall sound, with heavy guitars and vocals taking the spotlight overall. The drums also sound pretty tasty.

DEAD CITY SOULS should see a bright future with a release like this, here's hoping for more!<
