DE LA MUERTE released their debut, self titled album back in March of this year. Taking inspiration from NWOBHM with their operatic vocals and squealing guitar riffs, DE LA MUERTE produces a very fine first album. DE LA MUERTE is an entertaining band, but they can come across as a pretty generic metal group. Don't confuse that for me saying the band is bad, they are very talented musicians but their classic metal style can get stale pretty quickly. Mastrangelo seems to be the main focus, which is fine (the guy has some seriously killer pipes), but the guitar work gets a little stale. I was hoping for more of a Spanish influence in their music since the band says they are inspired by the cult of Santa Muerte. Their first track, "Tequila Funeral", is an instrumental that blends metal with more classic Spanish music. I was a little disappointed when that was missing from the rest of the album, however, they do a great cover of the classic, much covered song, "Malagueña Salerosa". Another track that really stood out to me is the track "Desaparecido". It's a bit harder than other tracks on the album and serves as a nice refreshment in the middle of the playlist. DE LA MUERTE delivers a heavy first attempt, definitely for fans of old-school metal.
