DAYLIGHT ROBBERY is band from Birmingham in England. The band has been running since 2010 and consists of rather experienced musicians. Their debut album "Cross your Heart" recently opened up the new year.
On this album every song is masterwork and worth you listening ears. The opening "Cross Your Heart" the attack begins by great guitars, both lead the rhythm, yet with typical AOR melody along with fine keyboards, a very catchy and memorable chorus that makes an amazing Hard Rock extravaganza. With this one I came across bands such as EUROPE and WHITESNAKE. "Shame on You" kept on reminding me how charming Hard Rock can be, especially with the former bands I mentioned, yet I believe that I have heard this one before, or maybe parts of it on other songs of classic bands like: DOKKEN, VAN HALEN and GOTTHARD. On the other hand, a band like DAYLIGHT ROBBERY finds a way with fresh new ideas providing a perfect toiling rhythm section and melodic riffs. Tony Nicholl's singing is so melodic & adds elements of the loosen side of Heavy Metal, the choirs in the background augment supplementary flavor to this brilliant song. "The Perfect Storm" is melodic track, well played, with similarities to BON JOVI and U2. This time Nicholl reminded me of JORN a little bit. "While You Were Sleeping" for me is the true sound and character of DAYLIGHT ROBBERY. I was enchanted by the catchy melodious chorus, great bass, meticulous keys & drums played by Ben Dixon. The guitars, whether lead or rhythm are awesome, a great addition for an amazing track with plenty of melodies. "Real Love is the Answer" has an impressive Bluesy rhythm with AORish type of guitars, especially the soloing, played by Mark Carleton and yet another memorable peak moment of the chorus. I notice the resemblance to DREAM THEATER songs when it comes to the keyboards and bass, quite striking. Definitely this is a song for fans of H.E.A.T. or HARD. The Hammond orientations are grand on "R E U N I T E" cruising with an atmosphere & ambience straight out of the early GOTTHARD tracks and other true 80s oriented Hard Rock numbers. "She's Got Me Understood" providing that cool WHITESNAKE vibe with keyboards and guitar performances while "Crossing The Great Divide" crosses as a power ballad of epic proportions lasting for over eight minutes. "In The Line Of Fire" is a powerful melodic Hard Rocker with a wonderful sing along chorus that will catch a rightful attention pretty fast along with the likable 80s oriented riffing and melodic licks. Without a shadow of a doubt, Tony Nicholl's voice is highly suitable for his kind of music. He puts everything in his singing, showing his worth with great energies, and great diction.
At least from my end, DAYLIGHT ROBBERY are The New Kings of Heavy Melodic Rock - these words are so true and I stand by them firmly. This band reminded me the true forms of melodic Hard Rock and AOR. Their music is played very well and it is melodic & energetic, the songs are so catchy and enjoyable, easy to memorize and hum just for fun. The production is great and engineered well. Generally, I think this debut album is an interesting piece and highly recommend to every fan of classic Hard Rock & AOR.
