Album Oriented Rock; something I didn't know existed until discovering Mr. David A. Saylor and his new album, "Strength of One". This kind of music is definitely radio friendly and very enjoyable and catchy, much like his last album, "City of Angels" except this album contains a lot of David's friends collaborating with him which is great to see.
There are some very strong tracks on this album, like the opening track, "Welcome to the Show" and "Flying High" along with two covers, "Now You're Leaving" by 2 AM and "Why Does Our Love Have to End" by SHY, which also appeared on his debut album back in 1991. A few of the tracks also have a very 80's Pop Rock feel to them like tracks "Don't Say Goodbye" and "Caught in the Middle".
The song, "Falling Star" features a duet between David and Gabriella De Val Koenzen from THE VAL, while the band's guitarist, Alfonso Samos also plays the solo. Of course, his good friend and music companion Jon Dewsbury is once again present and delivers a very smooth & soft production along with David.
You can tell a lot of time and emotion have been put into the writing of this album. The majority of the songs are very heart-felt and are clearly about someone David loved, but there's no surprise, why? Well, love is one of the most popular song topics, so with an album like this with the feel it has, I can't say I'm surprised, and don't get me wrong, I don't mind the odd heart-felt, break up song now and then.
From what I've read about the genre and David's past albums, it seems this album is a great addition to the world of AOR music and his song writing is as strong ever. As a first time listener of this genre and artist, I did very much enjoy the majority of this album and will be sure to check out more of his stuff.<
