It is a well-known fact that debuts can sometimes be a hard thing to comprehend; for some can be extremely amateurish, whilst other can in turn be brilliant. This item that I'm about to introduce you to is most definitely on the brilliant side.
This Transcending Obscurity Records gem is the 2016 debut record by the India-based Death Metal band, DARKRYPT. Despite the interesting moniker, their sound is worth mentioning too - even though it still requires a bit of work. This debut definitely has potential, and being that this might be the first material to some of the members, it is still some decent material. The record, which by the way has 9 songs, starts off with "The Becoming Alteration" and continues with "Dark Crypt". The sound of the latter track is decent; the riffs are kind of slow, focused less on speed and more on quality guitar riffing. Some vocals enter the music and are quite satisfactory, and on the raw side. The drums are also fine, however, some influences are a bit too modern for this sound, not sure if it was an intention, but they are good at it. I must admit that some growls in the middle of the second song actually made me feel a little more positive towards the rest.
I know that every album has its bad and good parts, and this band has them both. They aren't too original, but their playing style is quite recognisable, in a good way. It's not dull and it has some catchy, slightly groovy riffs, a ton of raw vocals, and some various modern influences.
DARKRYPT might be one in a million of those "classic Death Metal bands", but they have an idea, and they are upholding that idea pretty well. If you are into old-school-oriented Death Metal with a slightly modern and brutal touch, give this amazing band a spin. Don't throw yourself into cold water and don't expect huge brilliancy, but expect some nicely done Death Metal in the vein of IMMOLATION, CANCER, and SUFFOCATION.
