Dark Mile
Dark Mile
Dark Mile consists of four life long friends Mark Huff (Quiet Riot),Tracy G (Dio), Paul Alfery (Walk The Walk) and Randy Oviedo (Streek). The four of them all respect what each other has done musically in the past, all of which have been in the hard rock scene for years. They all felt that if they drew on that experience, they could create a powerful and distinctive sound. Tracy G will be best know for his work with Ronnie James Dio. Mark Huff spent several years touring with Quiet Riot. Paul Alfery released the debut album “Walk The Walk” and Randy Oviedo has been playing live as well as doing studio sessions with Skreek.
“The Boy” is a solid start to this album opus a track which is solid some great vocals with a great main guitar riff the backbone of the track ,with some great hooks and a good solo delivered in a no nonsense hard rock style. ”No Deal” and “I Can't Help You” pretty much follow on from the opening track keeping the same momentum & tempo delivered with conviction really great tracks to rock out to. ”Like Never Before” slows down proceedings a little somewhat an instrumental affair which is a shame really it has a great melody and the makings of a great ballad. ”Is Anybody Listening” changes the fast pace of the earlier tracks it has heavy elements but more melodic at the same time which reminds me of Winger and Dokken in their hey day but the distinctive vocals of Mark Huff gives it that Dark Mile sound, ”Games” is as power ballad as this album gets, a gem of a track which will make you reflect on life. ”He Said” is a great seventies influenced hard rock track with a blues element, very classic rock sound catchy melody and chorus. ”Maybe On A Sunday” has a great groovy bassline at the core of the structure, its gives the track that extra punch and dynamics.” Know Me” and “Where's The Love” are that powerful and distinctive sound drawn in from the bands vast experience that deliver the sound of Dark Mile the vocals, the rhythm section and guitars are sublime with great song writing and production.” United We Stand” is also another great example of this, as is the track that closes the album “Lies” .
Dark Mile have produced a great heavy metal/hard rock album. So if you are looking for an album that shows how it should be and how it is done look no further. These four lifetime friends have made an album that reaches new heights. From beginning to finish all killers no filler tracks with great musicianship ,production and mastering. Really good album and another great release for 2024 a must listen.
