Dark Forest - Beyond The Veil album cover

Hi Metal-Temple. Today I have the pleasure to introduce DARK FOREST's new born "Beyond the Veil". It is a beautifully crafted Power Metal album. This is the band's fourth full-length album and I have to say that it is showing a lot maturity in their sound. DARK FOREST originated from the United Kingdom, which is the home of so many big names and a rather harsh environment to grow in, but this didn't stop them from creating a distinct sound of their own.

Musically, most of the songs are a mix between Progressive Power Metal and Folk Metal. It is also very catchy and symphonic, giving the album a perfect flow. With clean vocals from starts to finish, they definitely seem to be influenced by the likes of HAMMERFALL and TYR.

The album opens up with "On The Edge of Twilight", a 7-minute story that will catch your ear right away. With classic Power Metal riffs and massive vocals by Josh, this is a truly beautifuly crafted song; as are all the others on the album. Thelyrics are  also really impressive and every song is very well written and thought through.

"Where the Arrow Falls", "Autumn's Crown" and "Blackthorn" follow each other really well and create a medieval fantasy trio with their rhythms and energy. It really feels as if you are embarking on a journey through time with sharp hooks to keep you focused on your goal.

After a short break, we get back in the fold with a more progressive trio in "The Wild Hunt", "Earthbound" and "The Undying Flame". The combined tracks clock in at over 22 minutes. With engaging riffs and hooks (on top of lovely harmonies) the amount of epic moments in these is hard to count.

I still have a weird impression at the end of the album though. The songs are incredible, the harmony and maturity of it all is undeniable, but I feel like they should have ended the album at around 55-60 minutes. Having over 70 minutes felt a bit too much; although it doesn't affect my appreciation of the work and you do get more for your money.

Fans of Power Metal will certainly find their fill with DARK FOREST. They are showing a lot of talent and will surely gain a new following with this album. It is worth every penny.
