DARK DOOM's Alex Wills has helped us through the isolation point in history right now. He has brought out the third EP in 3 years after the great release of The Journey last year (2019). If you're into Melodic Black Metal then give this band a try. Find the album on Bandcamp and Spotify. Enjoy!
"Blood and Emptiness" starts of with a very Atmospheric Metal kinda vibes that can be recognized from some of the songs on The Journey. It's a slow builder, but the harmonies are brilliant. Then of the peaceful harmonies is a full instrumental and vocal anarchy bombardment, however it is very well controlled and shows true composure. Vocals are coarse and dark, but are not just noise, which is what we some times hear in the independent circle, although the vocals are not easy to follow, they are a brilliant use of taking the song under control and allowing the melodies to flow. The composure in the song allows not an experimental sense, but more of a progressive changing inside. It slows down at the end which is ironic because the song in the previous album like this is called "After The End". Great start to the EP
"March of Glory" has a far heavier start, not so subtle, but it is a great change in direction to the album. The pace is set higher and the vocals hardly seem to change much, they also suit this pace and continue to help the melodies flow. The harmonies are so well-balanced that it makes the song more mature and ooze character. The song slows down just after the midway point and the Melodic Black styles change to an almost folk style, but it is done flawlessly in blending the styles together before the next Black outburst kicks in.
"Echoes" is seemingly used as an outro, it has a very similar start to "Blood and Emptiness", though I doubted it would kick in, I was wrong. The pace is not as high as before, but the aggression is still in full. The tempo soon hits the high point, though as this is less than 3-minutes long, you know it wont last. The song meant more because it did not just fade away, it had the last moments of frenzy before death, and I like that. Going out in style
It's 3 good songs, 1st and 3rd closer to each other and having a break of styles in the middle, worked very well. I look forward to hearing more from DARK DOOM and I thank Alex for releasing this to help us through the boredom of isolation.
